Which Bank or Building society statements do you accept as proof of address?

To verify your address, we only accept certain types of bank or building society statements from providers that carry out strong identity and address verification checks. 

This helps ensure the address shown has been independently verified and that you genuinely reside at that address.

These requirements also help ensure we meet relevant identity verification standards and compliance requirements set by HMRC, Companies House, and Trading Standards. 

Why do we require this? 

Current accounts show everyday activity 

Current accounts are typically used for everyday spending such as: salary payments, rent, bills, shopping and purchases. Regular transactions help us confirm the account is actively used and genuinely linked to the customer. 

Savings accounts are less suitable

Savings accounts usually have limited or irregular activity, making them less reliable for confirming ongoing residency.

High street banks carry out stronger checks 

Major UK high street banks generally perform more comprehensive identity and address verification checks when accounts are opened. This makes their statements more reliable as proof of address.

Digital-only or challenger banks may not always carry out the same level of independent address verification or documentation standards as traditional high street banks, so we cannot accept them for this purpose. 

Privacy and alternative documents

Documents must be provided in full, clearly visible, and unaltered. We are unable to accept statements where any information has been obscured (including partial hiding of personal details or transaction data), as this prevents proper verification.

We understand that some customers may have concerns about sharing financial information.

If you prefer not to provide a bank statement due to sensitive information, you may instead provide an alternative proof of address document such as:

• A utility bill (gas, electricity, water, or broadband)
• A mortgage statement
• A council tax bill (UK Only)

These documents often contain less sensitive financial information while still confirming your residential address.
