Company Name Change Service FAQs
How does this service work?
Once you've placed an order for the Company Name Change service you can submit the new company name electronically via your account.
It normally takes up to a working day for Companies House to approve the new company name depending on their workload. You will receive a Certificate of Change of Name once the name has been accepted. The certificate will be available to download from your account.
How would I know if my new company name is available?
We highly recommend that you check the availability of your new company name via our company name search tool before placing an order.
If, however, the company name is submitted but not approved by Companies House, you can resubmit another company name at no additional fee.
What if my new company name contains a sensitive word?
If your new company name contains a sensitive word, you will not be able to change the company name via online filing. You will need to provide supporting documents via paper submission to use the sensitive word. Unfortunately, we do not offer assistance with paper applications.
If you have already purchased our Company Name Change service, and cannot submit the online filing due to the sensitive word, please send a refund request, And as previously mentioned, you will need to file the NM01 paper application with Companies House instead.
Will I receive a new Certificate of Incorporation stating the new company name?
Yes, you can download the certificate from your company admin page. Please note, the certificate states both the previous and new company name and the date that the new name came into effect. The company number remains the same.
Who do I need to notify once the company name has been changed?
Yes, you will need to update HMRC with your new company name (Corporation Tax, VAT and PAYE). You will also need to update your bank, customers, suppliers, service providers, relevant authorities and other business contacts. Don't forget to update your company stationery, signage, website and domain name.
