A SIC code is a Standard Industrial Classification five-digit code that represents the type of sector or industry your company belongs to.

Which SIC code should I use?
It depends on the type of business you do. Please look at the Companies House Condensed SIC list.
If your business cannot be defined to one specific industry, you can choose more than one SIC code.
Please note: The SIC code for dormant (non-trading) companies is 99999.
Where to enter your SIC code
When incorporating your company with Company Formation MadeSimple, you will be able to enter up to 4 SIC codes in the designated SIC Code page. The SIC code(s) along with the rest of your company information will be sent to Companies House when you submit the registration.
Alternatively, you can enter the SIC code when filing a confirmation statement.
When your SIC information is required
From 30 June 2016, the SIC info is required at incorporation for limited companies. When incorporating your company with us, in the online application, there will be a section where a generic SIC code will be set by default however you will be able to update this.
Existing companies will provide this information when you file your first confirmation statement.
Changing your SIC code
You can change your company's SIC code as many times as you want, you would need to add the new SIC code in your confirmation statement and file it at Companies House. You can wait until the confirmation statement due date, or you can file it at any time during the year.
